Hidden self portrait

Progetto fotografico Alessio Righi Self Portrait

Hidden Self Portrait was born from a reflection on identity, image, and representation.

Through a simple physical intervention, without any digital manipulation, the face is removed from the photograph, taking away the element that most strongly defines and identifies a person.

Deprived of its identity, the subject ceases to represent a specific individual and becomes a universal figure. The absence of the face creates an empty space that can be occupied by the viewer.

Presented at life size and framed behind glass, the work incorporates the viewer’s reflection as an integral part of the image. The photograph no longer portrays someone to be observed; instead, it invites the observer to recognize themselves within it.

Hidden Self Portrait reflects on the construction of contemporary identity and on how we often choose to show what we wear before revealing who we truly are.
